Chronology of Gilbert Trausch’s Academic Career

Born on 20 September 1931 in Luxembourg-City.

Studies at the Cours supérieurs in Luxembourg, the Sorbonne in Paris and the University of Exeter

1956–58: doctorate in philosophy and literature

1958: submission of his scientific memoir in history on a subject of the French Revolution:
“La suppression des convents de la Ville de Luxembourg sous le Directoire”

1958: teacher at the Lycée de garçons Luxembourg (boys’ secondary school)

Since 1963: member of the editorial board of the journal of Luxembourg history Hémecht

Since 1964: effective member of the Historical Section of the Grand Ducal Institute

Since 1964: lecturer at the Pedagogical Institute

1966–95: lecturer on modern history at the Cours supérieurs/University Centre of Luxembourg

1970–97: classes on Luxembourgish history at the University of Liège

1972–83: director of the National Library of Luxembourg

1984–90: administrative director of the University Centre

1989–2001: president of the European Community Liaison Committee of Historians (member of the committee since 1982)
